Pashinyan, Putin discuss Armenia crisis over the phone

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Armenia over the phone on Thursday, February 25, RIA Novosti reported Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov as saying.

"The situation in Armenia was discussed ... Putin spoke in favor of maintaining order and peace in Armenia, resolving the situation within the law," Peskov said.

"The Russian head of state also called on all parties to exercise restraint."

The conversation was initiated by the Armenian side.

Armenia is facing a serious political crisis after the country's top military brass demanded Pashinyan's resignation. The PM, however, claims he had already dismissed the chief of the Army General Staff. The parliamentary opposition has already weighed in on the matter, urging against bloodshed and calling for a peaceful transition of power.
