The Council of the National Assembly of Armenia will meet in the morning of Friday, February 26 to discuss the demand of the parliamentary opposition to convene an extraordinary meeting of the parliament, opposition candidate for PM Vazgen Manukyan reports.

Manukyan said 35 signatures necessary for holding an extraordinary meeting have been collected.

The supporters of the PM candidate's had barricaded Baghramyan street, which houses the parliament, on Thursday and spent the night there.

He said Friday that the Homeland Salvation Movement will organize a march and will be back on Baghramyan Avenue during the National Assembly session at 4:00pm or 6:00pm.

According to Manukyan, the authorities have lost "almost 90%" of all they had, “they have no support, they are in agony,” and that there must be a nationwide movement. He also revealed that demonstrators from the country's provinces will join the movement on Friday.

The Movement issued a statement on Friday morning, summoning supporters to rally in front of the National Assembly at 1:00pm.

Armenia is facing a serious political crisis after the country's top military brass demanded Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation. The PM, however, claims he had already dismissed the chief of the Army General Staff. The parliamentary opposition has already weighed in on the matter, urging against bloodshed and calling for a peaceful transition of power.
