Erdogan: Armenian people should have "final say" on country's future

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said Ankara is against all types of coup attempts, in comments about the situation in Armenia.

"We are against all types of coups. We simply cannot accept coup attempts," Erdoğan told reporters in a brief news conference following Friday prayers in Istanbul on February 26, Daily Sabah reports.

He continued by saying that the Armenian military's "attempt" is "unacceptable," adding that the Armenian people should have the final say if the existing administration needs to be changed.

"They need to leave this decision to the Armenian people's will," Erdoğan added.

Armenia is facing a serious political crisis after the country's top military brass demanded Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation. The PM, however, claimed he had already dismissed the chief of the Army General Staff and accused the military of "coup attempt. The parliamentary opposition has already weighed in on the matter, urging against bloodshed and calling for a peaceful transition of power.
