Over 200 rockets were fired from Gaza into Israeli territory and the IDF struck some 140 targets in the Strip, in light of clashes in Jerusalem between Israeli security forces and Palestinians, Haaretz reports.
Palestinian media have reported 24 deaths in Israeli strikes, following rocket fire at the Jerusalem area and southern Israel, as tensions in the region boiled over on Monday, May 10.
Gaza's Health Ministry updated its death toll on Tuesday morning to 24, including 9 children, following a night of Israeli strikes. The ministry also added that 103 people were injured in the Strip.
The Israeli military boosted its presence along the Gaza border and said it was suspending a major drill by a day to focus efforts on preparing for a possible escalation, and in southern Israel, authorities called on residents of Gaza border communities to remain at home and near bomb shelters until further notice.
Israel's Arab citizens across the country will strike on Tuesday in solidarity with Palestinians in Jerusalem and Gaza, following the violent escalation on Monday night which left 24 Palestinians dead in the strip and hundreds more injured in both locations.
Classes in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will also take place online.
