Armenians to kick off election campaign on June 7

Election campaign across Armenia will begin on June 7 and run 12 days, Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission Tigran Mukuchyan told reporters on Tuesday, May 11, ahead of snap parliamentary elections slated for June 20.

Mukuchyan said electronic voting will be held from June 11 to 13, a week before Armenians will flock to polling stations to elect new members of parliament.

Polling stations will be established before May 26, and the process of submitting documents for the registration of parties and blocs must also be completed by then. Voters lists, meanwhile, will be available at polling places beginning from May 31, Mukuchyan added.

Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced on March 18 that Armenia will hold snap parliamentary elections on June 20. The PM came under fire after signing a statement with the Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh almost 45 days after the start of the military hostilities. Under the deal, the Armenian side was forced to return all the seven regions surrounding Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
