Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan discussed the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev, the press service of the Armenian Security Council reports.

On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province).

"The parties exchanged views and discussed possible solutions to the problem. Detailing the situation, Grigoryan stressed that Armenia considers the move as encroachment on its sovereign territory by Azerbaijan, which is unacceptable, and that the Azerbaijani armed units must leave those territories and return to their original positions," the Security Council said in a statement.

Grigoryan stressed that the Azerbaijani side's claims are unfounded, as there are maps of the Soviet period, confirming that said territories are Armenian.

Patrushev said he highly appreciates the restraint of the Armenian side in the matter, emphasizing the use of all possible diplomatic efforts to resolve it and adding that the Russian side is intensively working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
