ECHR: Azerbaijan provides info about six captured Armenian troops

Baku has provided medical documents on the health conditions of all six Armenian servicemen who were captured by the Azerbaijani military in the province Syunik on May 27, Armenia's Representative before the ECHR reports.

In response to the Armenian Government’s request on the protection of the rights of six prisoners of war, the European Court of Human Rights has reiterated that the decision (3 November 2020) to apply interim measures against Azerbaijan still stands and equally applies to all prisoners of war and civilian captives.

In addition, the European Court rejected the Azerbaijani Government’s request to lift the interim measures adopted in respect of individuals not confirmed as captives by Azerbaijan. In this connection the Court has decided that those interim measures should remain in force.

On the morning of May 12, the armed forces of Azerbaijan violated the border of Armenia in the southern province of Syunik, advancing 3.5 kilometers and surrounding Sev Lake, which is situated on the border between the two countries but is predominantly a part of Armenia. On May 13, the Azerbaijani military committed more border violations against Armenia, advancing near Vardenis (Gegharkunik province) and Sisian (Syunik province). One Armenian serviceman was killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting on May 25, six troops were captured on May 27, and another one on June 8.
