Russian troops will be deployed on the Soviet era border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan said in an interview with Public Television on Monday, June 28.

Asked why there is no reaction from the CSTO – of which Armenia is a member – given that the Azerbaijanis still remain in the sovereign territory of Armenia, Grigoryan said that intensive negotiations are ongoing with Russia, "a process is underway."

“There is Azerbaijan's factor here, we cannot say how Azerbaijan will behave. Clearly, Russian troops will stand on the Soviet era borders, the Azerbaijanis will leave the sovereign territory of Armenia and the issue will be resolved. Recently, nothing extraordinary has happened, except for the incident with the villager, ”he said.

The Azerbaijani servicemen threatened the residents of the village of Tegh in Armenia's Syunik Province with firearms, not allowing them to gather the newly cut hay, Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan said on Sunday. Only after the commanders of the 1st Army Corps of the Armenian Armed Forces arrived at the scene were the villagers able to collect the hay.

"We are on our way to finding a solution. The border troops of Russia will stand on the border, then after the demarcation and delimitation are completed, the border troops of Armenia and Azerbaijan will stand on the border. If we do not have enough of our own forces, Russian troops will stand in these areas," Grigoryan said.

Azerbaijani forces violated Armenia’s border in several sections in the provinces of Syunik and Gegharkunik on May 12 and 13 and are still refusing to withdraw their troops from the area. One Armenian serviceman was killed in Azerbaijan’s shooting on May 25, six troops were captured on May 27, although four of them have already returned home.
