Two Armenian wrestlers march into Olympic semis

Armenian Greco-Roman wrestlers Karapet Chalyan (welterweight category) and Artur Aleksanyan (heavyweight) stormed into the Olympic semi-finals in Tokyo on Monday, August 2.

Chalyan marched into the semi-finals with a 5-0 victory by points over Uzbekistan's Jalgasbay Berdimuratov and a narrow 2-1 win over the Russian Olympic Committee's Aleksandr Chekhirkin

Chalyan, a bronze medalist at last year's European Wrestling Championships, will be up against Kyrgyzstan's former Asian champion Akzhol Makhmudov who won his previous two bouts 11-0 and 9-1.

Aleksanyan -- a favorite for gold in the Greco Roman heavyweight category -- qualified for the semi-finals by defeating Finland's Arvi Martin Savolainen. His next opponent is Mohammad Hadi Saravi of Iran.
