Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said on Friday, August 6 that 58,108 people, including 2096 foreigners, received coronavirus vaccine shots between July 15 and August 4 in Armenia.

According to Avanesyan, the vaccination rate in the country is gathering pace, with a total of 190,036 doses having been administered overall, including 6188 on August 5 alone. She noted that most of the people getting the vaccines are locals.

Also Friday, the government approved a $3 million grant from the Eurasian Development Bank for Armenia to fight the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country. Avanesyan said the funds will be used to reconstruct and equip the Armavir and Ararat branches of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as to build a new infectious disease chapter at Vanadzor medical center.

Armenia is currently using AstraZeneca, Sputnik-V and CoronaVac vaccines to inoculate people aged above 18. The vaccination program rolled out across the country in mid-April, with health authorities also setting up mobile vaccination facilities near shopping malls and on major streets in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

Foreigners currently residing in Armenia and tourists too can receive the jabs free of charge. travelers, however, need to spend 10 days in the country to become eligible for the shots.
