The situation with the coronavirus pandemic remains tense in Armenia due to the emergence of new strains, including the highly contagious Delta variant, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Friday, August 13.

"Vaccination prevents the spread of severe forms of the disease and mortality, reduces the spread of infection, but it does not completely prevent the spread of the virus," the Ministry said.

The requirement to wear a mask indoors continues, although wearing a mask outdoors is no longer mandatory. In order to reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus, the Ministry of Health urged the public to follow the anti-epidemic rules: wear masks, practice social distancing and wash your hands as often as possible.

Armenia is currently using AstraZeneca, Sputnik-V and CoronaVac vaccines to inoculate people aged above 18. The vaccination program rolled out across the country in mid-April, with health authorities also setting up mobile vaccination facilities near shopping malls and on major streets in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
