Armenian President "extremely" worried about situation in Afghanistan

Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has said that events taking place in Afghanistan are extremely worrying.

"What is happening in Afghanistan is relatively far from our region. However, events taking place in that country, especially in terms of the humanitarian consequences that threaten to spread beyond Afghanistan, are extremely worrying," Sarkissian wrote on social media.

"Violence and infringement upon human life and freedoms we witness today on our borders as well, are unacceptable in any part of the world."

On 6 August, the Taliban launched an assault on the provincial capitals of Afghanistan, with most of the towns surrendering without a fight, and they captured all provincial capitals except Bazarak. On 15 August, the incumbent President, Ashraf Ghani fled the country, and the Taliban captured the Afghan capital Kabul; thus, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan's government fell.
