Turkish President, Georgian PM discuss Armenia-Azerbaijan crisis

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday, September 21 discussed the situation in the South Caucasus, TASS reports citing the press service of the Georgian government.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.

The two reportedly weighed in on the situation in the region, with Garibashvili citing the maintenance of peace and stability as Georgia's ultimate goal.

The Georgian and Turkish leaders also touched upon the transfer of 15 Armenian prisoners of war by Azerbaijan to Armenia in exchange for some maps of minefields. The process took place in July with the mediation of Georgia. Garibashvili and Erdogan noted that the fact that exchange that took place "is a good basis for cooperation between neighbors," the Georgian government reports.
