Vaccinated octogenarian dies from Covid-19 in Armenia

A vaccinated octogenarian in Armenia has contracted the coronavirus and died, Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan said in an interview with Shant TV on Monday, October 12.

Avanesyan said the person had multiple underlying health conditions.

"Such cases cannot be ruled out. Similar incidents happen in other countries too, but this should also be a reference point for how much the vaccines prevent death," the Health Minister said.

According to Avanesyan, a sufficient number of vaccines have already been administered in the country, "so that people can see that their neighbor was vaccinated, but nothing happened, or they got infected, but the illness was mild."

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections and deaths in Armenia grew by 903 and 44, respectively, on Tuesday, according to information provided by the Health Ministry. So far, 250,055 people have recovered, 5618 have died from the coronavirus in the country, while 1228 others carrying the virus have died from other causes.
