Esplanade in the heart of Paris named after Armenia

A large area in the heart of Paris – stretching between Pont de l'Alma (Alma Bridge) and Pont des Invalides near the Seine – has been named after Armenia, receiving the resounding name Esplanade d'Arménie, Yerevan's Embassy in France reports.

The decision was approved by the City Council of Paris on Thursday, October 14, "reaffirming once again the inviolable friendship between Paris and Armenia, the strength of the Armenian-French privileged relations," the Embassy said in a statement on Friday.

The esplanade of Armenia will be included in the official register of addresses in Paris. Its vast area will also include the monument to Komitas, which was erected in 2004, as well as the Yerevan Park inaugurated in 2009.

Relations between Armenia and France are regarded as excellent, with both countries cooperating on the aspects of diplomacy, culture and military. Due to good relations between the two countries, 2006 was proclaimed the Year of Armenia in France.
