EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar has repatriated 10 Armenian prisoners of war from Azerbaijan.

"Happy to have been able to repatriate 10 [Armenian] servicemen. Important gesture by [Azerbaijan] in the process of addressing humanitarian issues," Klaar said in a tweet on Sunday, December 19.

The EU represեntative said the bloc will continue to work with both countries to build on the successful meetings of European Council President Charles Michel, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Michel released a statement following the December 14 trilateral meeting with Aliyev and Pashinyan, maintaining that the two agreed that in the context of the planned launch of negotiations on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, further tangible steps will need to be taken to reduce tensions on the ground to ensure a conducive atmosphere for the talks.
