Russian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu have agreed to hold the second meeting within a regional cooperation platform in the near future.

The proposed regional platform, initially dubbed "3+3", was supposed to serve as a cooperation mechanism between Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russia and Turkey. However, Georgia has already opted out of it, and the mechanism is now referred to as "3+2".

The first meeting of the platform was held on December 10 in Moscow under the co-chairmanship of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey and the Director General of the Iranian Foreign Ministry. The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that "the representatives of Georgia, who were also invited, refrained from participating in the meeting."

According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov and Cavusoglu "gave a positive assessment to the first meeting of the participants of the platform on normalizing the situation and developing cooperation in the South Caucasus."

Lavrov also expressed support for efforts to normalize relations between Turkey and Armenia.
