EU envoy in Yerevan for follow-up meetings after Brussels

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar has arrived in Yerevan to follow up on meetings between the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders in Brussels.

Klaar is on a joint EU-France mission and is accompanied by Former French Ambassador to Cyprus and Ukraine Isabelle Dumont.

"Good to be back in Yerevan. Looking forward to substantial meetings tomorrow with [Armenian] leadership on joint [EU-France] mission with [Dumont]," Klaar tweeted Thursday, January 20.

Klaar said earlier his delegation had an "excellent meeting" with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to talk about "future engagement" in the region.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Aliyev met with President of the European Council Charles Michel on December 14 and with French President Emmanuel Macron the next day in Brussels.
