Armenia seeks revision of WHO report on excess Covid deaths

The Ministry of Health of Armenia has said that a new report from the World Health Organization (WHO) contains inaccurate data on the number of deaths from Covid-19 between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2021 in the country.

Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan ordered an analysis of the data on Armenia included in said paper, which showed that information about 650 deaths per 100,000 people from Covid-19 is exaggerated, as it reflects the number of deaths in the country not only due to the coronavirus pandemic, but also war casualties.

The Ministry will contact the WHO and demand further clarification and revision of the analysis, health authorities added.

New estimates from the World Health Organization show that the full death toll associated directly or indirectly with the Covid-19 pandemic (excess mortality) in the reporting period was approximately 14.9 million.
