Azeri aggression: Pelosi unveils U.S. position on situation

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited the Armenian Defense Ministry and unveiled the U.S. position on the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border Sunday, September 18.

Pelosi met with Defense Minister Suren Papikyan who thanked the lawmaker for quickly responding to the situation by visiting Armenia and for providing appropriate assessment of the large-scale military aggression of Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13.

Papikyan presented the situation caused by the large-scale military aggression of Azerbaijan to Pelosi.

During the meeting, a number of issues related to the cooperation of the two countries in the defense sector were also discussed.

Earlier on Sunday, Pelosi gave a press conference in Yerevan and strongly condemned the “illegal attacks” by Azerbaijan on Armenia’s sovereign territory, saying that Armenia’s security was of great importance to the United States. In a press conference, Pelosi strongly condemned “illegal and deadly attacks by Azerbaijan” and added that the violence “threatens prospects for a much-needed peace agreement.” She said the U.S. is watching the situation closely and continues to support a negotiated settlement.
