EU monitors to travel in Armena's regions ahead of deployment

The advance team of European Union monitors, which arrived in Armenia on Friday, October 14, are doing the legwork ahead of the deployment of a civilian mission along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan, the team of 8-10 experts will visit the various regions of Armenia by October 18 to learn the specifics of the situation on the ground and decide the locations for the deployment.

According to diplomatic sources cited by the Armenian service of RFE/RL, the EU mission will involve 50 monitors.

The decision to deploy a civilian mission was reached at a meeting between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, France and the European Union.
