Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan has commented on recent territorial claims by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, maintaining that the latter’s statements are no different from Hitler's own.

Aliyev recently met with the representatives of the so-called “community of Western Azerbaijan”, under which the territory of Armenia is assumed, and announced that the Armenian capital of Yerevan and the southern regions of the country are “Azerbaijani lands, where Azerbaijanis will return.”

"Hitler also said that historically the lands belong to them and attacked the neighboring states," Grigoryan said on Public Television on Tuesday, December 26.

Grigoryan also weighed in on the the crisis caused by the closure of the Lachin Corridor – the sole route connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia – by Azerbaijanis. According to him, Azerbaijan is responsible for it.

He added that the current pressure in Lachin is to get an extra-territorial corridor through Armenia.

"The Russian Federation has the capacity to solve the crisis, because it is authorized to do so by the November 9 statement. Azerbaijan wants to destroy the architecture of November 9 with this step, it should worry Russia," said the Secretary of the Council of Ministers, citing the trilateral statement signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan in 2020 to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

He added that the Armenian side continues to expect steps from the Russian Federation, but if there are no such steps, questions will arise as to why.

For over two weeks now, the key road has been blocked by Azerbaijanis who claim to be environmentalists. Azerbaijan had also deprived the people of Karabakh of gas supplies.
