Armenia wants PACE fact-finding mission in Karabakh

Armenia has submitted to PACE a proposal to send a fact-finding mission to the Lachin corridor, which has been blocked by Azerbaijan since December 12, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, PACE delegate Ruben Rubinyan on PTA air.

"PACE, of course, has mechanisms for sending a mission, which is why the Armenian side has submitted such a proposal and is actively working towards its promotion. It is expected to find a response in PACE among non-Armenian colleagues," Rubinyan said.

According to him, since Azerbaijan resists this proposal, therefore, its thesis that the Lachin corridor is not blocked is incorrect.

Speaking about the results of the debates in PACE, Rubinyan said that the PACE bureau has decided to submit documents on the matter to the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons to prepare a report on the situation in the Lachin corridor.

Since December 12, the sole road connecting Nagorno Karabakh to Armenia - the Lachin Corridor - has been blocked by self-described Azerbaijani environmentalists. Karabakh residents have reported food and fuel shortages, while hospital patients don't have access to essential medicines, with only a handful allowed transfer to facilities in Armenia proper.
