Turkey hopes Armenia will "correct mistake", remove Genocide-related monument

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has said he hopes that Armenia will "correct its mistake" and dismantle a statue dedicated to Operation Nemesis, Ermenihaber.am .

The monument commemorates those involved in an assassination plot against Ottoman Turkish officials responsible for masterminding and committing the Armenian Genocide.

Describing the Armenian Genocide as fiction, the Turkish Minister on Tuesday, May 23 threatened to take new measures otherwise.

At a meeting with Azerbaijani journalists, Cavusoglu weighed in on the need to sign a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

He said Turkey wants peace in the South Caucasus and has taken some steps with Armenia to support this process.

Turkey earlier closed its airspace to Armenian flights heading to a third destination in response to the unveiling of the monument in Yerevan. Speaking to broadcaster NTV, Cavusoglu said Turkey would take further steps if the monument is not removed.
