Armenia says wants to know if Azerbaijan rejects int’l obligations

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan considers the statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev made on May 28 “incomprehensible”.

The President of Azerbaijan, in particular, stated that the demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border should take place only on Azerbaijan's terms.

Weighing in on the matter, Pashinyan said he sees the need to clarify whether the statements of the President of Azerbaijan mean a rejection of the Brussels agreements.

“I publicly reported that Armenia and Azerbaijan - and the EU reported this - agreed to mutually recognize each other's territorial integrity. On this part, I think I have spoken quite a lot in public. In this regard, I do not quite understand the statements made by the President of Azerbaijan yesterday. I think that both Azerbaijan and international partners should clarify whether this means a rejection of the Brussels agreements,” Pashinyan said in parliament.

According to him, the statement speaks of Azerbaijan’s rejection of the agreements, but he does not want to rush, and instead seeks to clarify the situation in order to plan further steps.

“A five-sided meeting is planned in Chisinau, and a discussion of the possibility of signing a peace treaty is expected. Let me say that we have not yet received Azerbaijan's comments on the proposals we have submitted. At the moment, there is no agreed draft that could be signed,” the Prime Minister added.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Sunday made new threats against the people of Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh). “Everyone is well aware that today we are capable of conducting any operation in this region (Artsakh - Ed.)," Aliyev said during a trip to Lachin. "Therefore, the Parliament must be dissolved, the element that calls themselves President must surrender, all ministers, deputies and others must leave their posts. Only in this case can we talk about any kind of amnesty."
