Moscow expects Washington to refrain from dangerous words and actions that lead to increased anti-Russian sentiment in Armenia, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said Monday, September 25, TASS reports.
Antonov’s remarks came in response to a statement from Spokesperson for the U.S. Department State Matthew Miller, who said that he thinks that “Russia has shown that it is not a security partner that can be relied on” when asked about the war of words between Armenia and Russia.
“We urge Washington to refrain from extremely dangerous words and actions that lead to an artificial increase in anti-Russian sentiment in Armenia,” Antonov said.
“This confirms that the task of the United States and its allies is not the normalization of the situation and the peaceful development of the Sauth Caucasus, but inflicting strategic damage on Russia and the deliberate destabilization of the Eurasian space with the prospect of pushing us out of this region.”
According to the diplomat, Miller’s statement is “outrageous”.
“Americans, in fact, echo the destructive public statements of Armenian politicians, the purpose of which is to abdicate responsibility for their own mistakes in domestic and foreign policy,” Antonov claimed.
he said the Russian Federation “has been and remains a faithful ally of Armenia”.
“It has always strived to provide this fraternal country with the necessary assistance, including by sending our peacekeepers to Nagorno-Karabakh. The fact that Russian soldiers died at their post only emphasizes Russia’s readiness to make difficult decisions in order to achieve peace between the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples,” Antonov added
