Armenian Greco-Roman wrestlers Artur Aleksanyan and Malkhas Amoyan won silver and bronze, respectively, at this year’s Summer Olympics in Paris on Wednesday, August 7.

Aleksanyan lost 1-4 loss in the finals to Iran’s Mohammad Hadi Saravi. But not only did he win a silver medal, but also became the first Armenian in history to win medals at four Olympic games. He also won silver at Tokyo 2020, gold at Rio 2016, and bronze at London 2012.

Amoyan – an Armenia-born Yezidi – won bronze in a 6-5 match against Aram Vardanyan, an ethnic Armenian representing Uzbekistan.

The country’s total medal count is now three, including thanks to a gymnast Artur Davtyan who won a silver medal earlier. Armenia has the chance for one more bronze in Greco-Roman wrestling, as Slavik Galstyan will participate in the 67 kilogram weight class bronze medal match Thursday.
