NSS: men singing in Azerbaijani song in Yerevan were from Iran

The Independent Center for Strategic Studies shared a video on Facebook showing a group of individuals singing "Karabakh" in Azerbaijani at Republic Square. The footage, likely recorded during the New Year celebrations, shows the square decorated with holiday lights.

The video quickly spread online, with some claiming it was from previous years. However, political analyst Gagik Hambaryan pointed out the star-shaped decorations on the Government Building, which were not present in previous years.

"I suspect this was organized by Azerbaijani intelligence, who wanted to show that they can do whatever they want, wherever and whenever they choose in Armenia. Secondly, the organizers demonstrated that some Iranian citizens of Azerbaijani (Turkic) origin traveling to Armenia are part of Baku’s intelligence network and are ready to act on its orders," Hambaryan wrote.

Later, the National Security Service (NSS) issued a statement confirming that the individuals in the video were Iranian citizens.

"The individuals depicted in the widely circulated video from the evening of January 30 are in fact citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran," the statement read.

The NSS also released their names and photographs.

"These individuals were in Armenia from December 30, 2024, to January 3, 2025. The National Security Service urges the public to refrain from spreading or commenting on unverified or false information," the statement concluded.
