During his working visit to Italy, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan met with Piero Fassino, the PACE co-rapporteur on Armenia and a member of the Monitoring Committee. Fassino presented details of his upcoming visit to Armenia, according to the parliament’s press service.
The two officials also discussed regional developments and the ongoing democratic reforms in Armenia.
In the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Simonyan also met with members of the Italy-Armenia friendship group.
Highlighting the role of parliamentary friendship groups in strengthening bilateral ties, Simonyan expressed hope that through targeted efforts, Armenian-Italian relations would reach a new level of development.
The discussions also focused on regional developments, the repatriation of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan, and other matters of mutual interest.
The Italian Senate unanimously passed a resolution supporting initiatives for the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, with 112 votes in favor.
