Armenia, OSCE talk regional peace efforts in Vienna

On March 27, during a meeting in Vienna, Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan held discussions with Feridun Sinirlioğlu, the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The parties addressed directions of cooperation between Armenia and the OSCE, including the implementation of ongoing programs and their future outlook.

The Deputy Minister also presented the current situation in the South Caucasus, reaffirming Armenia's commitment to advancing peace in the region and normalizing relations with neighboring countries.

The Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty was also discussed. Abisoghomonyan emphasized the importance of signing the agreement as soon as possible, stating that it could serve as a basis for ensuring long-term peace and stability in the region.

On March 13, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on the two previously unresolved articles of the peace agreement, stating the treaty is ready for signing. Armenia also expressed readiness to begin consultations on the time and venue for signing. However, Baku has introduced new preconditions and claimed it is too early to set a date.

The draft agreement consists of 17 points, of which 15 had already been agreed upon. The two unresolved issues were mutual renunciation of international claims and the prohibition of third-country deployments on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
