Homeland party to run solo in 2026 elections

Homeland Party leader Artur Vanetsyan has announced that his party will participate independently in the 2026 elections. He affirmed that the party has sufficient resources and readiness for such a move, 168.am reports.

Vanetsyan stressed that the Nagorno-Karabakh issue is resolved only in Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s view, asserting that no international actor, including Azerbaijan’s leadership, considers the matter closed. He said viable international mechanisms exist that could help resolve the issue if used correctly.

Addressing domestic politics, Vanetsyan urged political forces to prepare for upcoming elections.

“Homeland Party and other patriotic opposition groups must realize that we are not in a conventional political struggle, but in a liberation fight. We all must take action to free our homeland from internal enemies,” he declared.

He noted that while part of the public expects more radical action, the opposition has already pursued its most forceful options. Vanetsyan firmly rejected extremism, including terrorism, as unacceptable, adding that the opposition’s efforts have already had an impact, which is reflected in government polling.

“Pashinyan knows that after losing power, he won’t be able to live peacefully in this country. Therefore, people must understand that this government must go,” Vanetsyan stated.

He also discussed the impeachment initiative against Pashinyan, noting that any Member of Parliament can propose it and collect signatures. Vanetsyan said opposition MPs cannot possibly oppose a vote of no confidence.

“For instance, the ‘Hayastan’ faction, being the second-largest force in Parliament, should nominate a candidate for prime minister. I’m sure their MPs will take steps to remove Pashinyan from power. If a process is launched and some opposition MPs refuse to sign, we will respond accordingly,” Vanetsyan added.

The Hayastan faction has reaffirmed its readiness to provide the signatures of all 28 of its MPs to initiate the no-confidence procedure, provided that the remaining eight signatures are secured and the initiators publicly demonstrate both the will and the capacity to mobilize sufficient public support to ensure the success of the impeachment. This was stated in the faction’s official announcement.
