Russia dismisses claims of interference in Armenian internal affairs

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated at a press briefing that there is no credible evidence of Russian interference in the electoral processes of other sovereign states. She labeled such accusations as false and a form of disinformation.

Commenting on media reports alleging that the Russian Embassy in Armenia was involved in disturbances in one of Yerevan's administrative districts, Zakharova said these claims are "an attempt to resolve domestic issues through external factors and manipulation involving Russia," according to TASS.

The Republic party had claimed that the Russian embassy was involved in an incident in Yerevan's Nor Nork district.

Zakharova responded: “It’s clear they lack convincing ideas to engage their own citizens—ideas that are interesting, long-term, and promising.”

“We’ve heard all kinds of accusations about our so-called interference from various countries. Everything attributed to us turned out to be false, lies, and misinformation—often used for internal political reasons or to justify certain foreign policy moves.”

She also noted that this incident could indicate Western influence on Armenia, emphasizing that “unfortunately familiar Brussels playbooks” are now being applied in the country.

On May 5, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan stated that “our northern neighbor is waging a hybrid war” against Armenia and predicted this would intensify ahead of the 2026 elections.
