On May 13, during a working visit to Luxembourg, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Michael O’Flaherty, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, to discuss various aspects of Armenia’s cooperation with the Council.
They reviewed the ongoing reforms in Armenia’s healthcare system. The discussion also touched on the state of women's rights in different countries and Armenia’s related commitments.
Special attention was given to the protection of human rights, strengthening democratic institutions, and the government’s continued efforts to uphold the rule of law. Both sides positively noted Armenia’s recent progress in deepening democracy, particularly regarding freedom of speech and the press.
Mirzoyan and O’Flaherty also discussed Armenia’s accession process to several Council of Europe conventions and the Armenian government's measures to address the needs of forcibly displaced Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh.
They also exchanged views on multilateral cooperation and the effective application of human rights mechanisms amid current geopolitical trends and regional developments.
