RA NA speaker meets Kazakhstan President to discuss ties

Within the framework of his official visit to Astana, President of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan met with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In addition to discussing bilateral relations, the two also addressed regional developments.

Simonyan welcomed Kazakhstan’s statements regarding the conclusion of peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as its support for fostering constructive dialogue between the two nations.

He also emphasized Armenia’s interest in significantly expanding bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sectors.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly stated that the draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan has already been finalized and awaits formal signing. He proposed holding consultations with the Azerbaijani president to sign the agreed-upon draft.

On March 13, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals regarding the two previously unresolved articles, confirming the agreement was ready for signing. Armenia expressed readiness to begin consultations on the date and location for the signing. However, Baku introduced new preconditions and claimed it was too early to set a meeting date.
