Armenia seeks clarity on brandy export issues

Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, commenting on the recent protest held outside the Georgian embassy in Armenia regarding issues with the export of Armenian brandy spirit, stated that although some Armenian trucks managed to cross the Georgian border, the overall problem remains unresolved.

Papoyan described the situation as unclear and announced plans to visit Georgia to investigate the matter firsthand, as reported by Aysor.am .

“We need to understand the reason. To be honest, the causes are unclear to us. We are trying to resolve the issue at all levels. There is a preliminary agreement, and I will visit Georgia soon to resolve the matter on site,” the minister said.

He emphasized that despite prior meetings and negotiations, the issue remains unsolved.

On May 13, Armenian alcohol producers and exporters staged a protest in front of the Georgian embassy in Yerevan. The demonstrators expressed frustration over Georgian authorities obstructing the transit of Armenian cargo bound for Russia, insisting that laboratory checks be conducted within Georgia. As a result, some vehicles have been stuck for weeks at the Armenia–Georgia border checkpoint.
