During a parliamentary briefing, Seyran Ohanyan, head of the opposition Armenia faction, stated that the situation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has recently become tense, marked by gunfire—exclusively initiated by Azerbaijan, according to him. He added that Baku also disseminates disinformation, aiming to create a basis for sustained psychological pressure on the Armenian side.
Ohanyan emphasized that Azerbaijan, the aggressor, has assumed the role of accuser, attempting to portray Armenia as guilty and to maintain continuous pressure. He asserted that the government, specifically the Security Council and the Ministry of Defense, must properly assess the situation and respond accordingly.
“Previously, Armenia played the role of enforcer, but now our security institutions must draw serious conclusions. The goal is to keep the border tense, exert influence, test Armenia's readiness, and reinforce the pressure and coercion within Armenian-Azerbaijani relations—all under the guise of a so-called peace agenda,” he said.
He noted that the public remains largely uninformed about the true developments in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, especially in the context of peace negotiations, yet Baku’s rhetoric remains aggressive. As an example, he pointed to Azerbaijan’s show trials against former Artsakh leaders and Armenian captives, saying Baku uses these as tools to justify further condemnation of Armenia.
Since March 16, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense has been issuing several daily claims alleging Armenian gunfire, which Armenia’s Defense Ministry has consistently denied. The EU observer mission has also refuted Baku’s allegations.
