Yerevan’s Nor Nork district head resigns amid controversy

Tigran Ter-Margaryan, the head of Yerevan's New Nork administrative district, has resigned. He announced his decision during a working meeting at the Yerevan Municipality.

Ter-Margaryan cited “a recent provocation and subsequent developments in the New Nork district that became widely discussed, reaching the National Assembly,' as reported by Radar.am .

"It will be speculated that, as the district head, I will obstruct the judicial process. Therefore, Mr. Mayor, as of today, I am resigning as the head of the New Nork administrative district," Ter-Margaryan stated.

He expressed gratitude to Aram Sargsyan, leader of the Republic party, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, and the residents of the New Nork district.

"I want to address certain mandate usurpers hiding in the National Assembly—2026 is not far off; we will meet in 2026, and I will be part of your political demise," he added.

A criminal case has been initiated against four individuals following a brawl at the New Nork district administration on May 30. The incident occurred just before a public discussion, involving blogger and activist Artur Chakhoyan, district head Ter-Margaryan, his team, and staff members. Six participants were detained, but Ter-Margaryan was not among them. Chakhoyan, who was also detained, was later released.
