Russia’s state corporation Rostec has delivered navigation equipment to Armenia to aid aircraft orientation in mountainous areas. According to the press service of Azimut, a VOR/DME 2700 co-located radio beacon was installed in Sisian.
The device is capable of simultaneously maintaining contact with up to 200 aircraft. It has been certified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as a primary navigation tool for air routes and as auxiliary support during landings.
“We’ve completed testing of the VOR/DME 2700 in Armenia, enabling aircraft to navigate mountain airspace and poor weather conditions,” said Azimut Deputy Director Alexey Galchenkov.
The Azimut beacon has proven to be durable and reliable. It is currently in use in multiple Russian cities, including Stavropol, Chelyabinsk, Kaliningrad, Khabarovsk, and Novosibirsk, as well as at several international airports.
