Moscow seeks lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized during a meeting in Yerevan with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan that Moscow is genuinely committed to the full normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“We view the comprehensive high-level trilateral agreements reached between the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan and the prime minister of Armenia in 2020 and 2022 as a solid foundation for this process. We welcomed the agreement on the text of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan and are ready to assist in resolving any remaining issues necessary for finalizing the document,” Lavrov stated, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

He added that Yerevan can fully rely on Moscow's support in all these matters, including the unblocking of regional transportation and economic routes, the delimitation of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, and the resolution of various humanitarian issues.

“We also see substantial potential in the regional cooperation platform based on the 3+3 format,” Lavrov noted.

The minister said preparations are currently underway for the third forum within this format. Lavrov expressed hope that today’s meeting would provide an opportunity to address these topics.

The head of Russia’s foreign ministry also thanked his Armenian counterparts for their hospitality and for organizing the visit at a high level.
