On May 21, Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, Lilit Makunts, met with U.S. Representative Pat Harrigan (Republican) to discuss issues related to the Armenia-U.S. bilateral agenda and the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The meeting also touched upon various aspects of the finalized text of the peace agreement.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has previously stated that a draft peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan has been agreed upon and is awaiting final signature. He has proposed initiating consultations with the Azerbaijani President on signing the finalized draft.
On March 13, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on the two previously unresolved articles, declaring the peace treaty ready for signature. Yerevan expressed readiness to start consultations regarding the timing and location of the signing. Baku, however, introduced new preconditions and stated it was too early to set a date for a meeting.
