Pashinyan: no 'Western Azerbaijan' in Armenian territory

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking at the second Yerevan Dialogue international forum, addressed the rhetoric coming from Baku, stating that “there is no and cannot be any ‘Western Azerbaijan’ within the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.”

He emphasized that for Yerevan, even discussing the concept is unacceptable, which he said is a legitimate stance, according to reporting by RFE/RL’s Armenian Service.

Addressing another of Baku’s demands—amending the Armenian Constitution—Pashinyan noted that if Armenia’s Constitutional Court determines the peace treaty is incompatible with the Constitution, he will initiate constitutional amendments.

"We propose to sign the peace treaty and simultaneously appeal to the OSCE to dissolve the structures of the Minsk Group. I believe this is a constructive offer—to have both documents on the table and sign them simultaneously, at the same moment, in the same place," Pashinyan reiterated.

Previously, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that Yerevan must clarify when Azerbaijanis would return to their former places of residence and how their security would be ensured upon return.
