A new corruption case has been uncovered in the Yerevan Municipality. Law enforcement officials are conducting a search in one of the municipality's buildings. The Anti-Corruption Committee confirmed that investigative actions are being carried out within an ongoing criminal proceeding, reports Pastinfo.
The case reportedly involves bribery, and is not linked to previous investigations, indicating a new, separate incident. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that there are individuals under arrest.
Yerevan Municipality clarified that the person currently under arrest was formerly employed by the municipality but was dismissed approximately two months ago.
“Recently, the municipality has been at the center of repeated corruption scandals. Earlier, Pastinfo, citing the Anti-Corruption Committee, reported that as of 2025, there are nine individuals from the municipality, community structures, and administrative districts facing charges in ongoing corruption cases.
A noteworthy point is that most arrests involve mid-level staff, raising questions about why senior officials are not being held accountable. This could mean either upper management was unaware of the corruption, or these actions were permitted under their watch. In either case, mid-level employees bear the brunt of the consequences, even though top officials often play a decisive role,” the article notes.
The publication inquired whether there will be any political consequences or potential resignations, but it was confirmed that no such discussions are currently on the agenda.
“The municipality finds such conduct unacceptable under any circumstances. Anyone who does not follow the rules—meaning the law—must be punished in accordance with the law, while also respecting the presumption of innocence,” said representatives of Yerevan Municipality.
