DOK party accuses Amb. Makunts of lobbying for Ghukasyan extradition

The political persecution of Vardan Ghukasyan, honorary chairman of the Dignified Future Party (DOK), has now extended beyond Armenia’s borders, the party declared in a recent statement, naming Ambassador Lilit Makunts as one of those responsible.

"The reports circulating online that Lilit Makunts, Armenia’s ambassador to the U.S., has twice appealed to American authorities to extradite Vardan Ghukasyan reveal the true nature of the current government system," the party stated.

Makunts, the statement continued, was expected to defend Armenia’s interests and dignity on the international stage. Instead, she has turned into an executor of political orders, obediently serving the failed domestic authorities. Her actions, according to DOK, have no connection with diplomatic responsibilities and instead reflect a willingness to serve personal and group interests.

DOK emphasized that the political persecution of Ghukasyan has now reached international dimensions and again pointed to Makunts as one of those responsible.

"Her initiatives have already been rejected by the American side, which we interpret as a sign of distrust—both toward her personally and toward the representative of the current government," the statement concluded.

Earlier, it was revealed that during a court session on May 28 in the case against DOK founder Vardan Ghukasyan, the court heard his testimony. According to his lawyer Levon Baghdasaryan, after more than four hours of hearings, the session was postponed to June 4. Ghukasyan is charged with fraud, extortion, threats, and public incitement to violence, but he denies all allegations.
