Ruling party MP: Armenia won’t abandon peace agenda

Secretary of the Civil Contract faction in Armenia’s National Assembly, Artur Hovhannisyan, stated that Azerbaijan’s gunfire targeting peaceful settlements in Syunik Province is an attempt to derail Armenia’s peace agenda.

Speaking during a parliamentary briefing, he emphasized that “Armenia will not succumb to provocations and will not deviate from its path,” Armenpress reports.

Referring to recent shootings in the direction of Khoznavar village, Hovhannisyan stressed that Armenia has consistently communicated its official stance and addresses every incident along its borders.

“We will continue to pursue our peace agenda. We have proposed to Azerbaijan that we examine the border area together, investigate each incident, and determine which side initiated them and how they occurred. We will keep working in this direction. The Republic of Armenia will not be drawn into provocations and will remain firmly on its peace path. Moreover, the international community supports this approach,” Hovhannisyan said.

On May 30, between 00:10 and 01:00, Azerbaijani forces opened fire toward Khoznavar village in Syunik, damaging a residential bathroom and injuring a small livestock animal. A similar incident occurred on May 29, when another home was damaged.

Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan told reporters in Parliament that Azerbaijan has denied responsibility for the Khoznavar shootings.
