At the fifth Armenia-France Decentralized Cooperation Conference in Goris, French Senator Gilbert-Luc Devinaz, on his third visit to Armenia, highlighted the importance of this collaboration for Armenia’s sovereignty and secure future. “Armenia must be able to live in peace within its borders,” he emphasized.

Recalling his April 23, 2023 visit with a Senate delegation, he noted the significance of understanding the reality of being under attack even in times of formal peace. During that visit, Goris’ mayor had to abruptly leave a meal with the regional governor due to an incident on the border.

Responding to a journalist’s question about cooperation, Devinaz said France should help Armenia bolster its security and ensure it has adequate defensive means. Following this, a joint resolution was adopted in the Senate, with all senators signing a request urging the French executive to provide military assistance to Armenia for defensive purposes. He thanked the executive authorities for heeding this appeal.
