Deputy FM: Armenia takes diplomatic steps to avoid escalation

Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan stated during a visit to Goris that Armenia is taking appropriate diplomatic steps on the ground to prevent further escalation in tensions with Azerbaijan. Responding to whether Yerevan perceives a risk of escalation, he emphasized that the country remains committed to de-escalation.

“Gunfire certainly does not help the overall situation, especially considering Armenia’s aim to normalize relations with Azerbaijan,” Kostanyan said, according to Auroranews.am.

For over two months, Azerbaijani armed forces have been firing toward border villages in Armenia’s Syunik Province, including targeting residential homes.

Earlier, the Ministry of Defense reported that between 12:10 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on May 30, Azerbaijani units opened fire toward the village of Khoznavar in Syunik, damaging a bathroom in a residential home and killing a small livestock animal.
