On June 2, an unofficial meeting took place in Telavi between Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, and Alen Simonyan, President of Armenia’s National Assembly.

According to Vesti Kavkaza, the main focus of the meeting was the evolving cooperation between the two parliaments and the regional situation.

The sides discussed the growing partnership between Tbilisi and Yerevan, which has taken on the character of a strategic alliance. Special emphasis was placed on deepening legislative collaboration, and both leaders expressed their commitment to strengthening parliamentary ties.

“They also discussed global geopolitical changes and the situation in the South Caucasus. The sides reaffirmed their readiness to cooperate for peace, stability, and trust-building in the region. The prospects of a South Caucasus transport corridor were also addressed,” the statement said.

Papuashvili highlighted Armenia’s efforts to deepen dialogue with the European Union and reiterated Georgia’s support for Armenia’s European aspirations, offering to share Georgia’s experience.

On March 13, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry announced it had accepted Azerbaijan’s proposals on two previously unresolved articles of the peace agreement. Yerevan stated that the deal was ready for signing and expressed readiness to negotiate the timing and venue. However, Baku set new preconditions, claiming it was too early to discuss a meeting date.
