Armenian, Azerbaijani officials meet over missing persons

Representatives of the Armenian and Azerbaijani commissions on missing persons have met, according to Armenia’s National Security Service.

During the talks, the sides addressed humanitarian issues related to clarifying the fate of individuals who went missing during the conflict.

The meeting also covered opportunities for information exchange, as well as for the organization and coordination of search efforts.

Both parties emphasized the importance of sustained humanitarian dialogue and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing communication in the interests of the families of the missing.

*The previous meeting was held on February 7, 2025, at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. The sides exchanged views on clarifying the fate of missing persons and agreed to continue discussions with mutual consent between the commissions.

According to official data, 993 Armenians have been missing since the early 1990s, and around 200 Armenian soldiers went missing following the 2020 war. Since the end of that war, Armenia has returned the bodies of 51 Azerbaijanis and the remains of 140 Azerbaijanis killed in the 1990s.*
