Former official denies wrongdoing in defense procurement case

Avetik Kerobyan, former head of Armenia's Defense Industry Committee, asserts that the criminal case against him is intended to make both him and his brother, former Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan, more manageable and obedient. He made these remarks in an interview with 24.news.

Kerobyan contends that the case is fabricated, stating, "There can't be any serious justification in the accusation because I held an administrative position without the authority to make unilateral decisions or independently allocate budgetary funds. The Defense Industry Commission approves state orders."

He also recalled that this is not the only criminal proceeding involving him. Another investigation was conducted by the National Security Service, which he believes is linked to actions taken against his brother. "Our criminal cases aren't directly connected, but considering that efforts to bring Vahan Kerobyan to heel began in late 2022, and I was charged in April 2023, it's clear these are attempts to make us obedient," he said.

The Anti-Corruption Committee recently announced that a former high-ranking official from the Ministry of High-Tech Industry is accused of initiating contracts worth approximately 360 million drams without necessity. According to Sputnik Armenia, this refers to Avetik Kerobyan.
