Valentina Matvienko, Chair of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, visited Victory Park in Yerevan, accompanied by Alen Simonyan, President of Armenia’s National Assembly.
The delegation laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, placed flowers at the Eternal Flame, and held a moment of silence in memory of those who died in the Great Patriotic War.
Later, Matvienko and her delegation visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial, where they laid a wreath and paid tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
As at Victory Park, Alen Simonyan accompanied Matvienko during the ceremony. The Russian Ambassador to Armenia, Sergey Kopirkin, was also part of the delegation.
Talks between Matvienko and Simonyan are scheduled during the visit.
Other members of the Russian delegation include Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Yuri Vorobyov, Chair of the Defense Committee Vladimir Bulavin, First Deputy Chair of the International Committee Vladimir Dzhabarov, Deputy Chair of the Social Policy Committee Yulia Lazutkina, Deputy Chair of the Regional Policy Committee Alexander Us, member of the International Committee Alexander Karelin, and member of the Social Policy Committee Andrey Chernyshev.
On June 6, Matvienko and Simonyan will attend the opening of the 39th session of the Interparliamentary Commission for Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of Russia and the National Assembly of Armenia. They will also participate in the 10th Russian-Armenian Interregional Forum on the same day.
